A Gamer's Guide to Getting Rich
Introduction
For many of us, video games are a
way to relax and spend time with our friends. Others enjoy competing against
other players online, or taking part in tournaments where they get to travel
around the world. Either way, there's something special about being able to sit
down with your friends and have fun without having to worry about anything else
- except maybe what game you're going to play next!
1.
Invest in Yourself
-
Invest in Yourself
You don’t need a degree to make
money in this industry, but it helps if you have some sort of post-secondary
education. If you want to start making more money, then consider getting an
advanced degree like a Master’s or Ph.D., which will give you more options for
employment and opportunities to learn new skills that could help you land a
high paying job as well as being able to teach others about how they can use
their own talents and skillset in the gaming industry. You should also think
about doing some sort of certification program that teaches people how they can
be successful when working within the video game industry such as Microsoft's
Academy Certification Program offered through DeVry University Online
(www.degruyonline). This type of credential will typically cost around
$2,000-$3,000 depending on what school offers it but is well worth investing
because once obtained it gives students access into many types of careers
related specifically towards gaming including game development studios such as
Insomniac Games who recently hired former employee Anita Sarkeesian after
receiving her Masters Degree at UMass Amherst's School of Information And
Library Science (SILS).
2.
Join a Team
•
A team is a collection of people who cooperate to accomplish a task.
• Team
members are all working towards the same goal, so they can help each other.
• Team members are committed to
achieving the same goal and doing their part in order to do so (even if it takes longer than
others).
3.
Sponsor Your Favorite Teams and Creators
Sponsoring a team or a creator is
one of the easiest ways to get involved with gaming. If you like what they're
doing, then why not help them out? You can sponsor them directly by paying them
directly (however many dollars they ask) or indirectly through something like
Twitch Turbo, which allows viewers to donate funds towards their favorite
streamers.
The same rules apply here as with
sponsoring an entire team: make sure your money goes where it will be most
effective!
4.
Start Streaming
- Streaming is a great way to get exposure and make
money.
- Streaming is a great way to build your audience.
- Building your brand through streaming is a terrific
idea.
- Streaming is a great way to build your name in the
gaming industry as an emerging professional player or streamer with
potential, which will help you get hired by big companies later on down
the line when they're looking for new talent (and where they're more
likely to take risks).
5.
Write for a Blog or Newsletter
- Get started by posting regularly and writing about
something you're passionate about. If you don't know what that is yet,
start by writing about a topic that interests you.
- Once you've got your feet wet and are ready to write
regularly, try different things like creating a list of tips on how to get
started in gaming (or whatever else) or sharing some of your favorite
links from other blogs or websites. You can also focus on one specific
thing: maybe it's gaming news? Or just writing about video games? Whatever
it is, make sure all of these posts are relevant to each other so they
don't seem repetitive or boring!
- Your goal as an established blogger isn't necessarily
having tons of traffic every day—it's actually building up an audience
over time! That said, if there's an angle where people might want more
information or want advice related specifically towards their interests
then definitely go ahead with those concepts but beware: sometimes just
having fun with things ourselves helps us understand better what other
people may be looking for out there too which leads us back again into our
last point above...
6.
Become a Social Media Star
Social media is a great way to build
your brand and get exposure, but it can also be a great way to make money. If
you have the skills and personality required for social media marketing, there's
no reason why not to start making some real cash from it too!
There are two main ways that people
make money from their social media presence:
- They get paid by brands who want an ad campaign placed
on their page or website (usually referred to as "brand
sponsorships"). The brand pays them directly for each post or video
they share. You'll have to do some research on what kind of posts will
attract attention from brands in order to maximize your chances of getting
one of these opportunities—but once they're interested enough, they'll pay
handsomely!
- They run paid services like Instagram ads where users
pay per click/click through rate (CTR). This means that if someone views
one of your sponsored posts then clicks through either link within it or
another link within another post; those clicks count towards CTR which
determines how much money each user receives upon completion of payment
transaction with merchant partner.
Conclusion
I hope you've learned a lot in this
post. I want to remind you that while all of these things are great ways to
make money, they're not the only way. If there's something else you think we
should have added, or if there's anything else we could do better for our
readers, let us know! Thanks for reading!
